THAILAND JUST LAUNCHED AN ANTI-FRAUD PLAN CALLED THE "BANGKOK BLUEPRINT." DIGITAL SCAMS COST $1 TRILLION A YEAR. THIS IS THEIR ANSWER.

The International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Bank of Thailand jointly launched the Bangkok Blueprint on October 14, a high-level principle framework designed to combat cyber-enabled financial fraud. The framework lays out five pillars and 12 key considerations for governments, banks, telecoms and tech companies to coordinate their fight against digital scams across borders. The scale of the problem is staggering: cyber-enabled fraud costs an estimated $1 trillion globally every year, roughly 3% of global GDP. That is not a typo. One trillion dollars. The Blueprint calls for a "whole-system approach" that brings every relevant industry into the fight rather than leaving it to banks and police alone.
For anyone living in Thailand, this story hits close to home. Thai mobile banking users have been targeted by increasingly sophisticated scams for years, from fake Line messages to call center gangs operating from neighboring countries. The fact that Thailand co-developed this framework with the IMF and World Bank is significant because it puts Thai regulators at the center of a global anti-fraud conversation, not just reacting to local scams. The IMF and World Bank clarified that the Blueprint is not formal mandated policy guidance. It is a set of 12 key considerations that countries can voluntarily adapt to their own contexts. No country is required to implement it. But the fact that it exists, with Thailand's name on it, gives Thai regulators a seat at the table they did not have before. For a country that spent the week being called "the sick man of Asia," producing a landmark anti-fraud framework is exactly the kind of deliverable Thailand needed from these meetings. This is the headline the government wanted.
Bottom line: The Bangkok Blueprint: five pillars, 12 considerations, a voluntary framework to fight $1 trillion in annual digital fraud. Thailand co-authored it with the IMF and World Bank. If you use Thai mobile banking, you are one of the people this framework is designed to protect. Whether it changes anything depends on which countries choose to adopt it and how they implement it after the meetings end Saturday.
Thailand just pitched "AI for all" at the IMF meetings. But shipping faster with AI does not mean customers are seeing value faster. Atlassian's State of Product 2027 surveyed thousands of product professionals and found the gap between AI speed and actual customer outcomes. If you build products, this is the report that tells you what AI still has not solved.
State of Product reveals what AI still hasn’t solved
80% of product professionals say AI helps them ship faster, but customers aren’t seeing value any sooner. Atlassian’s State of Product 2027 explores the gains AI is delivering and the challenges that remain, from decision-making that hasn’t kept pace to gut instinct overriding customer evidence.
NEARLY 600 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED OUTSIDE BANGKOK TO SECURE THE IMF-WORLD BANK MEETINGS. HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED BEHIND THE SCENES.

While finance ministers were discussing digital fraud frameworks and AI strategies inside QSNCC, Thai law enforcement was running one of the largest security operations in recent memory outside the capital. The Bangkok Post reported on October 14 that the Royal Thai Police arrested 587 suspects in proactive crime prevention sweeps conducted across 25 provinces outside of Bangkok. The operations were carried out in Provincial Police Regions 1, 2 and 7, covering provinces like Chon Buri, Ayutthaya and Kanchanaburi, with the goal of stopping crimes from filtering into the capital during the meetings. The sweep was designed to clear the security landscape before 15,000 delegates from 191 countries arrived. The number is striking because it reveals the scale of effort required to make a global event of this magnitude feel routine.
The security operation ran alongside the gathering ban at 24 venues, the five road corridors flagged for motorcade disruptions, the WFH days for government workers and the special October 16 holiday for banks. All of these measures are part of the same apparatus: making Bangkok safe and functional enough to host the world's most powerful financial decision-makers for a week. The 587 arrests in 25 provinces are the part of that apparatus you were not supposed to see. For residents, the practical question is what happens when the meetings end Saturday. Do the arrests reflect a temporary security surge that ends when the delegates leave, or does this become a template for how Thailand approaches major international events going forward? Either way, the next time someone tells you hosting an IMF meeting is mostly about economics, remind them that 587 people were arrested across 25 provinces before the panels even started.
Bottom line: 587 arrests across 25 provinces outside Bangkok. 24 venues with gathering bans. Five road corridors monitored. WFH days. A special bank holiday. This is what it takes to host 15,000 delegates. The security operation is the story nobody at the meetings is talking about, but is happening behind the scenes.

The Finance Ministry is defending the proposed ฿1,000 departure tax amid growing backlash. After travel agents attacked the proposal on October 13, the Finance Ministry fired back on October 14, arguing the tax is necessary for tourism infrastructure and development. The public consultation runs through October 29, and the statutory ceiling allows up to ฿5,000. For expats who fly in and out regularly, this is the tax fight worth watching. Combined with the airport service charge that already jumped to ฿1,120 this month, the cost of leaving Thailand is climbing fast.
The Similan Islands officially reopened today. Mu Ko Similan National Park in Phang Nga is back for the 2026-2027 season, running through May 15, 2027. The park admits 3,850 visitors and 525 divers per day. Overnight stays are banned. Day trips depart from Khao Lak. Early October seas can still be choppy, so November through April offers peak conditions. If you have been waiting for diving season, it started this morning.
Floods persist in Bangkok and 20 provinces, affecting 2.45 million people across 906,083 households. The government has disbursed ฿2.41 billion in flood relief to 306,384 households across 39 provinces so far. That is a significant acceleration from earlier weeks, but with more than 906,000 active households still affected, the majority of families are still waiting for compensation. Water levels are falling across all impacted regions, but many communities remain submerged.
Thai woven bags are drawing international interest at the IMF-World Bank meetings. Local artisans showcased traditional Thai woven bags at the meetings on October 14, and delegates have been buying them as souvenirs. It is a small story, but it is the kind of cultural exposure that does not happen unless you host 15,000 people from 191 countries. The bags are handmade by community artisan groups, and the global spotlight may create lasting demand for a product most Bangkok residents walk past without noticing.

Natura Cafe is the hidden gem that most people living in Bangkok have never heard of, and that is exactly why it works. Tucked inside Poomjai Garden along the Bang Khun Tien Canal in Chom Thong, this is an outdoor cafe and restaurant built inside what is reportedly the last litchi garden in Bangkok. Tropical greenery, bamboo structures, wooden walkways through the trees and waterfront seating where you can watch boats pass on the canal while you eat. The restaurant side serves Thai food: Pad Thai Shrimp, Stir-Fried Rice Vermicelli with Water Mimosa, Deep Fried Pork with Fish Sauce, Spaghetti Keemao and a Duck Egg Stew with Stewed Pork. The cafe side handles coffee, cakes and smoothies, including a Coconut Smoothie with Thai Tea Custard Cake that reviewers keep photographing.
The 4.4-star rating across 1,908 Google reviews at ฿200-400 per person is the score of a place that gets discovered by word of mouth and rewards the effort of getting there. "A true hidden gem in the heart of Bangkok," one reviewer wrote. "Peaceful, lush atmosphere surrounded by greenery, wooden walkways, and tropical vibes." Another said "great staff, amazing food and they serve beer as well." A third called it "my all-time favorite cafe in Bangkok." The catch is the location: Chom Thong is not near any BTS or MRT station, so you need a taxi or your own wheels. But that is part of what makes it a hidden gem. Accessible from Soi Chom Thong 19 or Rama 2 Soi 28. Parking available. Natura is the escape that feels like you left the city without actually leaving the city. Opens 10AM.
Insider tip: The waterfront seating by the canal is the best spot. Order from the cafe side for coffee and cake, or the restaurant side for a full Thai lunch. The Coconut Smoothie and the Pad Thai Shrimp are the combination most reviewers recommend. Go before 2PM for the best light for photos. Opens 10AM, closes 6PM.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
