A FORMER NONTHABURI MP STORMED A PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OFFICE THIS MORNING, SHOT AND KILLED THE PROVINCIAL ADMINISTRATION PRESIDENT AND HIS DRIVER, THEN SURRENDERED TO POLICE.
Former Nonthaburi MP Chalong Riewraeng walked into the Nonthaburi Provincial Administration Organization headquarters on Monday morning, armed, and shot PAO President Thongchai Yenprasert and his driver. The driver Yod survived, he was grazed by gunfire and had minor injuries. Chalong surrendered to police shortly afterward. Bangkok Post, Khaosod English and Nation Thailand all confirmed the details. PM Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered full legal action regardless of the suspect's political status.
The motive, according to initial police statements, was a personal debt dispute between the two men. Chalong, who served as a Member of Parliament for Nonthaburi, apparently believed the debt had not been resolved to his satisfaction. He chose to resolve it with a gun, inside a government building, on a Monday morning. Whatever the personal grievance, walking into a provincial administration office and executing the president and his driver is an act that crosses every line a society draws between dispute resolution and violence. The killing also arrives less than a week after a student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, killing seven people in the same province. Two shootings in Nonthaburi in six days. The gun control debate that reignited after the school shooting now has a former elected official adding fuel to it.
Bottom line: a former MP shot and killed a provincial government leader over a personal debt. The PM said political status will not provide protection. The legal process will determine the consequences. But the image of a former lawmaker using a gun to settle a financial dispute inside a government office is one that Thailand's political class will not be able to distance itself from easily.

SUVARNABHUMI AIRPORT FOOD IS STILL ABSURDLY EXPENSIVE. HERE IS WHERE TO EAT WITHOUT GETTING ROBBED.
If you have ever bought a burger and fries at Suvarnabhumi Airport and looked at the bill with the same expression you use when a tuk-tuk driver quotes you ฿500 to go three blocks, you are not alone. A typical fast food set at Burger King or McDonald's at BKK runs over ฿300, roughly double what the same meal costs at any downtown branch. A basic coffee at S&P costs ฿112. A bottle of water that costs ฿10 at 7-Eleven can cost ฿40 airside. The Office of the Ombudsman has visited. Complaints keep coming. Restaurants at Suvarnabhumi signed contracts saying they would only increase prices 10-20% above street level. The reality on the menu does not match the contract on file.
The fix is not to complain. The fix is to know where to go. Magic Food Point is a food court on the basement level near Gate 8 that most travelers walk past without knowing it exists. It operates on a cash card system: you buy a card at the entrance, order from any stall, and get any unused balance refunded when you leave. Pad Thai, green curry, khao man gai, som tum and fried rice run between ฿50 and ฿70. That is street food pricing inside an international airport. The selection covers Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese. The quality is not going to win any awards, but it is honest food at honest prices, and after watching someone at the gate pay ฿300 for a dry sandwich, the value hits a little different.
Bottom line: Magic Food Point. Basement level. Near Gate 8. Cash card system. ฿50-70 per dish. Tell everyone you travel with. The ฿300 burger upstairs is the same burger that costs ฿150 downtown. The ฿60 pad thai downstairs is the same pad thai that costs ฿50 on the street. Choose accordingly.

A Hat Yai school switched to online classes after a former teacher circulated firearm images and threatening messages. Hatyaiwittayalai School will hold classes online August 10-11 as police investigate. Another gun threat at a school, days after the Nonthaburi shooting.

The menu draws from traditional Thai cooking with the kind of attention to detail that separates court-style cuisine from street-level versions of the same dishes. "A place that gives you a full flavor and experience of Thai food," one reviewer wrote.
The 4.5-star rating across 587 Google reviews tells you the food earns its setting. The restaurant also operates a tearoom and cooking classes, which means the experience extends beyond dinner if you want it to. Prices run higher than casual Thai dining, and one reviewer noted it felt "a bit pricey for what it offers," but the combination of a century-old building, royal-inspired recipes and a dining room where the waitstaff treat the meal as an occasion creates something that most Bangkok restaurants do not attempt.
