THE BANK OF THAILAND HELD THE INTEREST RATE AT 1% FOR THE FOURTH STRAIGHT MEETING. ECONOMISTS EXPECT NO CHANGE THROUGH THE END OF 2027.

The Monetary Policy Committee voted unanimously on Wednesday to keep the one-day repurchase rate at 1%. All 26 economists polled by Reuters expected the hold. The central bank has now cut the rate six times, by a total of 150 basis points, between October 2024 and February 2026 to support an economy grappling with sluggish domestic demand and high household debt. The committee said the current rate is “appropriate to support economic recovery” and that accommodative policy would continue. Inflation came in at 2.82% in September, inside the BoT’s target range of 1% to 3%. The central bank forecasts headline inflation at 2.1% for 2026.

What this means for expats is straightforward. If you have a mortgage or a business loan in Thailand, your rate is not going up. If you have savings in a Thai bank account, the return stays low. The economy is forecast to grow 2.4% in 2026 and 2.1% in 2027, which is positive but not strong enough for the BoT to start tightening. Deputy Governor Piti Disyatat said earlier this month that monetary policy would remain accommodative “until the economy is ready.” Translation: cheap borrowing continues, savings earn little, and the central bank is prioritizing recovery over inflation control. While many central banks in the region, including the Philippines, have raised rates in response to inflationary pressures linked to the conflict in the Middle East, Thailand has held steady since the conflict started. The next MPC meeting is December 23.

Bottom line: 1% interest rate. Unchanged. Expected to stay there through 2027. Cheap money for borrowers, thin returns for savers. If you are thinking about a major purchase or investment in Thailand, the financing environment is as favorable as it has been in years. The BoT is not moving until the economy gives it a reason to.

CABINET APPROVED CHEAPER FUEL PRICES FOR THREE MONTHS. HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY SAVE AT THE PUMP.

Cabinet approved excise tax cuts on Tuesday covering E20 gasoline (up to ฿5.60 per liter) and B20 diesel (฿5.50 per liter) for the next three months. But the number on the tax document is not the number at the pump. PTT and Bangchak announced actual retail price cuts of ฿2.19 per liter for E20 and ฿3.69 per liter for B20, effective October 28. The gap between the tax cut and the pump price means other cost factors, including refinery margins and the Oil Fuel Fund’s ฿100 billion deficit, are absorbing part of the reduction. Still, if you fill a 50-liter tank with B20 diesel, you are saving roughly ฿185 per fill-up. Over three months of weekly fill-ups, that adds up to around ฿2,200.

The cuts are designed to ease cost-of-living pressure heading into the end of the year, and they land alongside the BoT’s decision to hold the interest rate at 1%. Together, the two moves signal that the government and the central bank are both prioritizing affordability over fiscal tightening. The fuel cuts also serve a secondary purpose: boosting demand for E20 and B20, which use agricultural feedstocks like sugarcane, cassava and palm oil. That helps farmers while easing energy costs for consumers. For expats who drive in Bangkok, the practical question is whether your usual station has already updated pricing. PTT and Bangchak stations should reflect the new prices as of today. Other brands may take a day or two to follow.

Bottom line: B20 diesel dropped ฿3.69 per liter at the pump. E20 gasoline dropped ฿2.19. The cuts last three months. Check your station today. If you fill up weekly, you will save roughly ฿2,000 over the period. Not life-changing, but not nothing either.

Most hair thinning products treat the surface. OneSkin’s OS-01 Hair Scalp Serum is the only peptide formula scientifically proven to target cellular senescence, the process that causes age-related thinning at the root. Thicker hair over time, backed by research. Save 25%.

Target Hair Thinning Where it Begins—at the Cellular Level

There are many products for hair thinning on the market, but they don’t all deliver on their claims. OneSkin’s OS-01 HAIR SCALP SERUM is the only peptide-powered scalp formula scientifically proven to target cellular senescence, a leading driver of age-related thinning, for thicker hair over time.

Taobao just added PromptPay at checkout in Thailand. China’s largest e-commerce platform has integrated Thailand’s real-time payment system directly into its checkout flow, alongside automated import tax support for Thai shoppers. This means you can now pay for Taobao orders without needing a Chinese payment app or a credit card with international fees. If you have been buying from Taobao through agents or workarounds, the friction just dropped significantly. This is part of a broader push by Chinese e-commerce platforms to localize payments across Southeast Asia. For the PromptPay system, it is another sign that Thailand’s digital payment infrastructure is becoming a regional standard.

Thailand’s GDP may get bumped after investigators found ฿800 billion in unreported factory output. The National Economic and Social Development Council is reviewing the numbers after recent talks between PM Anutin and economic agencies uncovered significant gaps in manufacturing production data. Roughly ฿800 billion in factory output was not being captured in the official GDP calculation. If the figures are revised, Thailand’s growth rate for Q3 and beyond could look meaningfully higher than the current 2.4% forecast. This does not mean the economy suddenly got stronger. It means the measurement was missing a chunk of activity that was already happening. For businesses and investors watching Thailand’s growth numbers, the revision could shift the narrative from “sluggish” to “underreported.”

Thailand is launching a nationwide hunt for an estimated 10,000 visa overstayers. Immigration authorities announced the operation following the discovery that the Israeli man arrested for drugging women had overstayed by 2,095 days. The 10,000 figure is the Bureau’s estimated population of overstayers currently in the country, not a pre-identified list of targets. The sweep signals a shift from reactive enforcement to proactive investigation. For expats with valid visas, this changes nothing. For anyone in Thailand on an expired visa or extension, the window to resolve it just narrowed.

The Ashton Asoke condo project just had its legal path to MRT access cleared by the Council of State. The long-running dispute over whether the luxury condo’s pedestrian bridge to MRT Sukhumvit Station was legally built has been a cloud over property values in the Asoke area. The Council of State’s October memo officially cleared the legal framework for the BMA to issue a retroactive construction permit, effectively preventing demolition. If you own a unit or have been watching Ashton Asoke prices, this is the development that changes the valuation conversation.

🎷 SPOT OF THE DAY

Din Restaurant and Jazz Bar is tucked inside the Baan Tuk Din Hotel, a 125-year-old heritage building on Dinso Road in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon old town. The building dates back to the reign of King Rama V, and the restaurant occupies three zones on the ground floor: a vintage European-style dining room with warm lighting and low seating, an outdoor courtyard surrounded by tropical gardens, and the bar itself. The menu blends Thai and international dishes with a focus on organic ingredients. The green curry with beef and crispy roti is the dish reviewers come back to talk about. The beef tongue stew gets mentioned in nearly every review. Steak, grilled salmon with pesto, fried duck leg with orange sauce, cold sliced tenderloin with ponzu and shrimp marinated in lime and fish sauce round out a menu that covers a lot of ground without feeling scattered. Cocktails are creative and well-made, with the Night Flower as a signature worth trying.

The real draw is the live jazz. Thursday through Sunday nights, a live band plays in the dining room and the music transforms the space. “Great live music, tasty cocktails and the main thing, an atmosphere,” one reviewer wrote. Another called it “fine dining that serves delicious, flavoursome food with attention to detail.” A third said “when they strike the jazz band up, perfection.” The 4.8-star rating across 301 Google reviews is earned by a combination of food, atmosphere and music that most restaurants only manage one of. People typically spend two to three hours here, which tells you it is the kind of place you settle into rather than rush through. Budget ฿250-500 per person for food. No parking at the hotel, but there is a private lot just before the entrance. The restaurant is pet-friendly. This is the hidden gem that Phra Nakhon locals have been keeping to themselves.

Insider tip: Tonight is Thursday, which means the live jazz is on. Arrive before 8PM to get a seat in the main dining room near the band. Kitchen closes at 9:30PM so order dinner early and stay for the music and cocktails. The courtyard is the quieter option if you want conversation over music.
