THAILAND IS PREPARING EVACUATION AND ENERGY PLANS AMID US-IRAN TENSIONS. TWO DAYS AGO THE GOVERNMENT SAID THERE WAS NO NEED TO STOCKPILE.

National Security Council secretary-general Gen Chaiyaphruek confirmed on October 30 that Thailand has contingency plans in place for a possible escalation between the United States and Iran. The plans cover three areas: evacuating Thai citizens from the Middle East, securing alternative energy supplies and preparing for cyberattacks. Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow confirmed that evacuation plans were developed with the Thai military and that the armed forces are ready to act if the situation deteriorates. The NSC plans to convene relevant agencies and academics for a meeting as early as November 4 to discuss response scenarios. PM Anutin urged the public to remain aware but not panic, stressing that Thailand is food-secure with strong agricultural output.
Here is the timeline that matters. On October 29, the Ministry of Defence issued a statement clarifying that the public does NOT need to stockpile food, water or medical supplies. The NSC confirmed that no 72-hour preparedness directive was ever issued. The clarification came after reports drew parallels to emergency guidance issued by foreign governments. At least 20 countries have already advised their citizens to prepare essential supplies, with recommended durations ranging from three days to two weeks. By October 30, the tone shifted. The government confirmed active contingency planning across energy, evacuation and cybersecurity. Gen Chaiyaphruek stressed that the preparations do not mean Thailand is facing an imminent crisis, but that the government must be ready if the situation worsens. The practical concern for anyone living in Thailand is energy. An escalation between the US and Iran would directly affect oil and gas supplies, which would hit fuel prices, electricity costs and the broader economy. Thailand imports a significant portion of its energy, and the Oil Fuel Fund is already running a ฿100 billion deficit. The government has prepared alternative energy supply plans from an earlier crisis, and those plans are now being updated for new scenarios.
Bottom line: No need to panic. No need to stockpile. But the government’s posture shifted in 48 hours from “nothing to see here” to “we are actively planning for multiple scenarios.” That shift is worth paying attention to. If you live in Thailand, the most practical step is to stay informed, follow government announcements and understand that energy prices could move quickly if the situation escalates. This is not a drill, but it is not a crisis either. It is preparation. At least 20 other countries are doing the same thing.
If you are still drinking grocery store K-Cups, you are wasting your mornings. Angelino’s is a small family roastery out of L.A. that ships fresh-roasted pods within days. 50+ varieties, works with any Keurig, and at 39 cents a cup it costs less than what you are probably paying now. 15% off your first order.
Your K-Cup Has Been Sitting in a Warehouse for Months
That grocery store pod? It was roasted long before it hit the shelf. Coffee starts losing flavor within weeks of roasting — which is why your morning cup tastes flat, no matter how nice your machine is.
Angelino's does it differently. A third-generation roaster in Los Angeles, they roast, grind, and seal every pod in-house for peak freshness, then ship it to your door within days of roasting. The difference is the first thing you'll notice: real aroma, real flavor, no bitterness.
Mix and match from 50+ specialty coffees, teas, and flavored blends — all Keurig®-compatible — and save more with every box you add, up to 34% off at 12+. Order once whenever you're running low, or subscribe for an extra 5% if that's easier. Entirely up to you.

THE GOVERNMENT JUST CONFIRMED A “NIGHTLIFE SANDBOX” FOR KHAO SAN ROAD AND RAMBUTTRI. IT IS NO LONGER BEING CONSIDERED. IT IS OFFICIAL.

Reported on October 31 that the government plans a “nightlife sandbox” covering both Khao San Road and Rambuttri Road. Minister Paradorn Prissananantakul chaired the meeting on October 30 with Bangkok officials, police and government agencies to formalize the discussion. This is the story we have been tracking since October 24 when the business association asked the PM to kill the midnight closing rule. The Halloween celebrations over the weekend, with an expected 60,000 visitors over two nights, served as the real-world test case. If the numbers held and the weekend went smoothly, the sandbox moves from concept to implementation.
Here is what the sandbox means beyond Khao San. Midnight is the official closing time for entertainment venues in Bangkok, but a significant number of bars and clubs across the city already operate past it. Some take the risk and accept occasional fines. Others pay officers to look the other way. By officially extending hours on Khao San and Rambuttri, the government is not just giving bars more time. It is removing the financial incentive for venues to pay bribes to stay open and letting businesses earn revenue legally instead of laundering it through unofficial payments. The question every expat in Thonglor, Ekkamai, RCA and Sukhumvit is asking: does this pilot stay on Khao San or does it expand citywide? If the sandbox works, the precedent is set. Every entertainment corridor in Bangkok could make the same argument. The best case for extended hours is not that people want to party longer. It is that the current system forces businesses to break the law or pay to survive.
Bottom line: The nightlife sandbox is official. Khao San and Rambuttri are the test zone. If it works, the policy conversation goes citywide. This is the most significant change to Bangkok’s nightlife rules in years, and it started with a business association letter five weeks ago.
Gold is trading near $4,500 and the math says it could go higher. At the 1980 ratio of gold to M2 money supply, the number is $10,000. M2 just hit a record $23.2 trillion. Gold at $10,000? Here's the math.

Gold Would Sit near $10,000 at the 1980 Ratio
M2 money supply hit a record $23.2 trillion in June. At its 2011 ratio to M2, gold would sit near $4,500, about where it trades now. At the 1980 ratio, it would sit near $10,000.

Bangkok just announced Loy Krathong at five sites from November 17 to 29. The city’s official Loy Krathong celebrations will run across five main venues with a separate program at Mahakan Fort from November 23 to 25. Loy Krathong falls on November 24 this year, but the events stretch across nearly two weeks. If you have never experienced it in Bangkok, this is the year. If you have friends or family visiting, tell them to book their trip around November 24. We will publish a full Loy Krathong planning guide closer to the date.
Thai taxi fares could soon be linked to vehicle size. Bigger car, higher fare. The proposal under consideration would adjust taxi meter rates based on the size of the vehicle, meaning a ride in a larger sedan or SUV would cost more than a compact. The logic is that larger vehicles have higher operating costs and the pricing should reflect that. For expats who use taxis regularly, this could mean slightly higher fares if you are picked up by a larger vehicle. The details are not finalized, but the direction is clear: one-size-fits-all taxi pricing is on its way out.
Lifetime driving licenses will NOT be scrapped. The government confirmed that existing lifetime licenses remain valid despite earlier speculation about changes. If you hold a lifetime Thai driving license, you can stop worrying. The government has no plans to revoke or replace them. This was a straightforward relief story after weeks of rumors, and the confirmation is now official.
The Binance hack is prompting Thai regulatory scrutiny of crypto exchanges. Thai regulators are reviewing security standards across cryptocurrency exchanges operating in the country following a major breach at Binance. The hack rattled investors globally and Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission is now looking at whether domestic exchanges meet adequate cybersecurity thresholds. For anyone trading crypto through a Thai-regulated platform, expect tighter compliance requirements in the coming months.

The 4.8-star rating across 718 Google reviews is earned by a place that charges more than a street massage but delivers a completely different experience. “Unique interior design, relaxing vibe, nice staff, well treatment,” one reviewer wrote. Another said “the room is beautifully decorated with soft massage tables, candles and plants.” A third called it “the most amazing and relaxing experience” and said “the ambiance just makes you not want to leave.” BK Magazine and Time Out Bangkok both featured White Wood Green as one of the city’s top spa destinations. Time Out specifically named it “the best place in Bangkok for when it’s raining,” which makes it the perfect Sunday spot. Post-treatment, they serve tea with homemade cookies and you are welcome to stay in the lounge as long as you want. Prices start at ฿800 for a 50-minute head and shoulder massage and go up to ฿5,500 for the four-hour full program. Book ahead, especially on weekends.
Insider tip: The 95-minute signature massage at ฿2,500 is the sweet spot between a quick treatment and the full half-day commitment. Book through the website or call ahead. The private rooms have their own shower and toilet, which makes the experience feel more like a hotel spa than a neighborhood wellness center.
