Police raided a luxury house in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, just outside Bangkok, and arrested 13 foreign nationals accused of working without permits. Officers found computers, phones, call scripts and records of people who had been targeted. The evidence points to a call-center scam operation targeting people overseas. And it was being run from a quiet residential area just 20 minutes from Sukhumvit.

Scam compounds have become one of Southeast Asia's biggest crime stories, with major operations found in Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines. But those places always felt far away from Bangkok. This one was in Bang Phli. The luxury house, 13 workers, scripts and victim records suggest a well-organized operation, not a few people working out of a spare room. The initial charges are for working without permits, but the investigation could expand as police examine the evidence and how the group came to be there.

A white Mercedes-Benz was spotted driving against traffic on a multi-lane elevated highway in Bangkok on Monday, September 8. Dashcam footage showed the car moving toward oncoming traffic as other drivers swerved to avoid it. The driver was identified as a 77-year-old grandmother and was eventually stopped. No one was injured, but the footage spread across Thai social media within hours.

The incident started a bigger debate about elderly drivers and whether Thailand should require older drivers to have regular license or medical checks. Thailand currently does not require drivers above a certain age to retake driving tests or undergo medical assessments when renewing their licenses. The bigger question is how the Mercedes ended up going the wrong way on an elevated highway in the first place, and whether a system should have caught the problem before someone was killed.

Bottom line: No one was hurt, but it was a terrifying near-miss. The video is dramatic. The policy question is even bigger: should there be a system in place for regular reassessment of older drivers?

South Korea's Hanwha Ocean won a ฿16.73 billion contract to build frigates for the Royal Thai Navy. The Thai Navy selected the Korean shipbuilder after a competitive bidding process, with a detailed briefing scheduled for September 18 after the appeal period. The deal is one of Thailand's biggest defense purchases this year and adds to growing cooperation between Bangkok and Seoul in defense, automotive and technology.

Nothing Sacred is an experimental chef's counter and sound lab hidden on Thanon Chaokhamrop in one of Bangkok's oldest residential districts. The concept combines seafood-focused dishes with bold fermentations and a sound experience that is part of the meal. Reservations are required, with no walk-ins. You sit at the counter facing the kitchen as each course is prepared in front of you. The menu can include mud crab, congee tart, squid tartare, spotted grouper, short rib with massaged wild betel, sea urchin and a koji butter broth that one reviewer described as "every fish from the menu boiled into one bowl."

The restaurant has a 4.9-star rating across 66 Google reviews. That's a small sample, but the limited number of seats is part of the concept. "Atmosphere, food, people... unmatched," one reviewer wrote. Another said they "absolutely loved the experience." At ฿2,000+ per person, Nothing Sacred sits in the same general price range as some of Bangkok's Michelin-starred restaurants, but the experience is much more intimate and experimental.
