Yesterday we told you to prepare for seven months of elevated roadworks starting Monday. Today we are telling you to unprepare. Suvarnabhumi Airport has postponed the construction project after criticism that closing three lanes of the terminal approach road during the tourism high season would create unacceptable congestion for passengers. The postponement was announced Thursday, August 27, one business day after the plan was made public and three days before construction was scheduled to begin.

The reversal is the right call for the wrong reason. The criticism was not that the roadwork was unnecessary. The elevated roadway connecting the terminal to Motorway No. 7 does need expansion joint repairs. The criticism was that starting construction during the busiest travel period of the year, when passenger volumes are at their highest and the approach roads are already operating near capacity, was a planning decision that prioritized the construction timeline over the passenger experience. The airport has not announced a new start date. The work still needs to happen. But it will now be rescheduled to a period that causes less disruption, which is what should have been planned in the first place. For anyone who rearranged their airport routine based on yesterday's issue: you can go back to your normal schedule. The road is staying open. For now.

Bottom line: the roadworks are postponed, not cancelled. The repairs are still needed. A new timeline will be announced. When it is, we will cover it. In the meantime, the approach roads remain as they are and the Airport Rail Link remains the smarter option regardless.

GlobetrotterJulez posted the video after saying he was repeatedly offered drugs on Sukhumvit the previous day while carrying his 4-year-old daughter. The footage shows men approaching pedestrians and offering "coke" in full view of passing traffic, security cameras and other pedestrians. Sukhumvit's drug solicitation problem is not new, but seeing it documented on camera next to a child makes the normalization of it harder to ignore.

A passenger reported ฿600,000 in belongings missing from a checked suitcase after flying Bangkok to Krabi. Suvarnabhumi Airport launched an investigation after the passenger found items worth approximately ฿600,000 gone from their luggage upon arrival. The case is being tracked through the baggage handling system to determine where the items were removed. A reminder to keep high-value items in your carry-on.
