THAILAND WANTS TO GIVE ONE MILLION HOMES ฿50,000 EACH FOR SOLAR PANELS. THE CABINET VOTES NEXT WEEK.

A government screening committee approved a ฿50 billion funding package on October 20 that would give up to one million Thai households a ฿50,000 subsidy to install solar panels. Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary Lawaron Sangsanit confirmed the approval. The scheme is expected to go before Cabinet on October 26, with registration potentially opening in mid-November. Households would install panels on roofs or on the ground, generate electricity for domestic use and sell surplus power back to the grid. The MEA currently buys surplus electricity at 2.20 baht per unit under a 10-year contract. Officials estimate a five-kilowatt system could generate around ฿1,000 a month from surplus sales, although that figure is a projection and not guaranteed.
Here is the part that matters for homeowners doing the math. The ฿50,000 does not cover the full cost. A typical five-kilowatt residential solar system in Thailand costs ฿120,000 to ฿200,000 or more depending on the brand, installer and whether batteries are included. The subsidy covers roughly 25-40% of the installation cost. To bridge the gap, state-owned banks including the Government Savings Bank and Government Housing Bank are expected to offer special loans at 2.5% interest over seven years with no collateral required. Electricity income from selling surplus power can be used toward loan repayments. The ฿50 billion budget comes from the energy transition portion of the government's ฿200 billion borrowing program. If this passes Cabinet, it would be one of the largest residential solar programs in Southeast Asia. Thailand's solar imports have already surged in anticipation. For homeowners, the question is whether your roof, your meter registration and your property type qualify. Eligibility details are expected after the October 26 vote. Watch this space.
Bottom line: ฿50,000 per household. One million homes. ฿50 billion budget. Cabinet vote October 26. Registration possibly mid-November. The subsidy does not cover the full cost of installation, but the combination of a 25-40% subsidy, 2.5% loans and surplus electricity income could make solar in reach for a lot of Thai homeowners.

SAMSUNG GALAXY PHONES CAN NOW TAP THROUGH BTS GATES. NO RABBIT CARD NEEDED. APPLE PAY MIGHT NOT BE FAR BEHIND.

Samsung launched the Rabbit Virtual Card inside Samsung Wallet on October 20, making Galaxy phones the first smartphones in Thailand that can tap through BTS Skytrain gates. The service covers the BTS Sukhumvit, Silom and Gold lines, plus the MRT Pink and Yellow lines, BRT buses and Chao Phraya Express Boat ticket machines. Samsung developed the feature with Bangkok Smartcard System, the operator of Rabbit Card. The rollout runs from October 20 to 26 as Samsung updates the Wallet app across compatible Galaxy models. The first virtual card is free. The feature works as Tap and Go, meaning you do not need to unlock the screen or enter a passcode. You just tap your phone on the gate. An estimated 2.4 million Samsung Galaxy devices in Thailand are compatible.
Now the question every iPhone user in Bangkok is asking: what about Apple Pay? Here is where it gets interesting. Apple Pay already works on MRT Blue and Purple lines, the Airport Rail Link and Red Lines because those systems accept EMV contactless payments (any Visa or Mastercard, including phone wallets). The BTS has been the holdout because it only accepts the proprietary Rabbit Card system. Samsung found a workaround by partnering directly with Rabbit. But Bangkok's new common ticketing system, set for January 1, 2027, will install EMV contactless readers at BTS gates for the first time. The system caps fares at ฿17-45 per trip across all lines. If those EMV readers go live on schedule, any contactless payment method, including Apple Pay, Google Pay and your regular bank card, should work at BTS gates starting January. Samsung got there first through the Rabbit system. Apple users may get there through the front door in January. Either way, the days of fumbling for a plastic Rabbit card are numbered.
Bottom line: Samsung Galaxy owners can tap through BTS gates starting now. iPhone users can already tap through MRT gates with Apple Pay. The January 2027 common ticketing system should bring EMV contactless to BTS gates, which would mean Apple Pay on BTS too. One way or another, your phone is replacing your transit card. Samsung just got there three months early.

Police seized five tonnes of cannabis from a luxury Bangkok home after neighbors complained about the smell for a year. Immigration police raided a three-story house in Bang Khen's Soi Khu Bon 27 on October 19 and arrested five foreign nationals: one Vietnamese boss and four Myanmar workers who were sorting cannabis flowers for packaging and delivery across Bangkok. The operation had a cannabis license issued in Nong Bua Lamphu province, but it did not authorize activities in Bangkok. The maximum penalty for operating without a proper license is one year in prison and a ฿20,000 fine. Five tonnes of cannabis. One year max. That ratio tells you everything about where Thailand's cannabis regulation stands right now.
Tourism minister says "real" Chinese tourists will not face kidnapping risk. Tourism Minister Surasak responded at Government House on October 20 to the Chinese embassy's travel warning about kidnappings and human trafficking. He insisted that genuine holiday-makers are safe and promised closer cooperation with Chinese officials. The framing of "real" tourists is notable. The minister is drawing a line between Chinese nationals entering Thailand for legitimate tourism and those being lured by fraudulent job offers toward the Myanmar border. The distinction matters because China's warnings could affect the 6+ million Chinese arrivals Thailand is counting on this year.
BMA extended the flood relief registration deadline to November 30 and apologized for delays. City Hall acknowledged that the payout process has been too slow for the 210,648 families still affected in Lat Krabang, Nong Chok and Min Buri. If you or anyone you knows are in one of those three districts and have not registered yet, the new deadline gives you five more weeks. Meanwhile, Cabinet approved the ฿10.51 billion additional relief budget yesterday for 1.48 million households nationwide.
Virgin Atlantic launched its first Thailand route with direct flights from London to Phuket. The route opened on October 19, timed for high season. It adds another direct European connection to southern Thailand and puts Phuket on Virgin's global network for the first time. If you have family or friends flying in from the UK this winter, there is now a nonstop option.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
