A Thai woman was arrested in Sing Buri province after CCTV footage linked her to a series of bag thefts targeting passengers who fell asleep at both Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports.

The investigation began on May 21 when a woman identified as Jiraporn reported a stolen bag to officers at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. She told police she had fallen asleep in the departure area and woke up to find her bag gone. Officers pulled CCTV footage and identified a suspect moving through the terminal, approaching sleeping passengers and taking unattended bags. The footage was cross-referenced with camera systems at Don Mueang International Airport, where police found the same woman had carried out similar thefts. The suspect was eventually tracked to a resort in Sing Buri province, where she was arrested.
The story is a reminder that both of Bangkok's international airports are public spaces where thousands of passengers sit, wait and sleep every day, and that basic security awareness matters even inside a terminal with CCTV coverage. The thefts were not violent or sophisticated. They relied entirely on passengers falling asleep with their bags beside them rather than secured. For anyone who transits through BKK or DMK regularly, particularly on early-morning or late-night flights when the terminals are quieter and the temptation to close your eyes is strongest, the lesson is straightforward: do not leave your bag unattended while you sleep, loop a strap around your arm or leg, or use a luggage lock attached to your seat. The CCTV caught the suspect. It did not prevent the thefts.
Bottom Line: The arrest is a good outcome, but the pattern it reveals is worth taking seriously. Airports feel safe because they are controlled environments with security everywhere. They are also environments where tired people with valuable belongings sit in public spaces for hours, which makes them attractive for exactly this kind of low-risk, high-reward theft. If you fly frequently, treat your bags at the gate the same way you treat them on the BTS: within reach and within sight at all times.

🍛 SPOT OF THE DAY
Krua Apsorn (← Click for Website and Booking)
This hidden gem Krua Apsorn holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, which means the inspectors considered it good quality, good value cooking, and that description captures something precise about what happens at this small shophouse on Samsen Road. The restaurant was started by five siblings who learned family recipes passed down through generations, and the menu reflects that inheritance: refined Thai home cooking served without ceremony at prices that make you wonder how a Michelin-recognized kitchen charges ฿200-400 per person. The crab meat omelette (kai foo pu) is the dish that built the reputation. It arrives fluffy, golden and packed with real crab in a way that most Bangkok restaurants at three times the price cannot match. The stir-fried crab meat with chilli is the second order, and reviewers consistently describe it as the best dish on the table. Timeout Bangkok called Krua Apsorn "a hidden gem on Samsen Road" and listed it as a genuine alternative to Jay Fai without the three-hour wait, which is the highest compliment the Bangkok food scene can give a Thai restaurant operating at this price point. The space is no-frills: simple tables, no atmosphere strategy, the focus entirely on what arrives on the plate. The 4.4-star rating across 808 Google reviews and the Bib Gourmand recognition both point to the same conclusion: this is one of the best-value Thai meals in the city.
TIP: Go before noon on weekdays for the shortest wait. The crab omelette is the thing to order first. Everything else follows from there. Closed Sundays.
